Roles and Responsibilites

The primary responsibility of the Faculty Representative is that of an informational link between the local association and the site faculty. It is the Representative’s obligation to communicate individual and collective interests and concerns of the faculty to the local association. Likewise, it is the responsibility of the Faculty Representative to relay the actions and decisions of the local (DEA/TANLA), state (CTA) and national (NEA) associations to the faculty.

A second and yet perhaps equally important responsibility of the Faculty Representative is to serve as an advocate for the staff at his/her respective school site. Advocacy can take on many forms, from directing staff members to the appropriate resources to address individual needs, providing the voice for your site staff’s interests at Representative Council Meetings or directly with Association Leadership and/or the Executive Director/CTA/NEA, to attending a conference with a staff member to serve as his/her Association Representative.

As the Faculty Representative you should attempt to involve the members at your site in Association activities and involve non-members with special emphasis on membership recruitment.
